Created by Sarah and Daphne, Engage Shoalhaven is a free website designed and launched to help women in the Shoalhaven connect and engage with their community. That’s it. No strings attached. If you offer, or are involved in a local group or activity of interest to women please put a free listing up on this site. If you are a woman living in the Shoalhaven looking for a group or activity to join, have a browse through the listings – we hope you find something that inspires you!

We are two women living with our families in the Shoalhaven. Both of us moved to the area as adults and as our children grow more independent we are looking for opportunities to involve ourselves in activities that appeal to us, outside of our families. There are many groups in the area that rely on word-of-mouth advertising and over the years we have both expended lots of energy trying to find those groups.

We hope that as you search through our listings you will easily find a new activity that will enrich your life and give you new ways to connect with the wonderful and diverse community around you.

And remember, anybody can add a listing, so if you become involved with an activity that is not listed here, please add it to make it easier for other women to engage.

Every day I am in awe of the women in our community and the amazing work they are doing. I hope we can reach out to all of them.

If you peel back the layers of this website the true focus, for me, is women’s mental health. Research has proven that having a connection to your community, and people who inspire and support you, can decrease depression and anxiety. Even if it’s just an hour or two a week in an activity – kicking the footy with your local AFL team for example – it can do wonders for your self-esteem and outlook on life.

And to the husbands, boyfriends, partners, fathers, brothers and sons out there – we can’t do this without you. We need your support.

Thank you to Alex for designing the website, Brad for allowing us to maintain it during work hours, and the team at IT Basecamp for their encouragement and support.
